Social and economic sciences

Two major lines of approach inform this teaching.

The first line relates to basic knowledge useful to any manager. The goal is to raise students’ awareness as to the problems involved in communication, negotiation, relations with others (individuals or groups) in their future company world of work. This involves preparing them to be as efficient as possible, to better articulate their own concerns and understand the actions of others whom they need to motivate and guide. This is clearly a managerial issue.

The other priority involves providing students with input enabling them to develop analyses of the economic and administrative environment of the company in which they are to be players. This aim of turning engineers into “honest agents” in the economy also hinges on constantly raising awareness as to the living forces that drive the economy as a whole.
